The Community Foundation “Sumy” buys the units defending the Sumy region what their mission depends on: thermal imagers, vehicles, drones, communications, first-aid kits. Every purchase goes into the ledger and into a public report.
Sumy sits 30 kilometres from the Russian border

These figures come from the Foundation’s own ledger and update with it. Campaign totals are re-read from the bank pages every three hours.
The Foundation was created by Sumy’s volunteer community in 2014, when the war in the east began. By 2022 more than 10 million hryvnias had passed through it: equipment, gear and food for soldiers in Donbas, tactical medicine training, work with the families of the fallen.
On 24 February 2022 the Sumy region became one of the first directions of the invasion. Everyone connected to the Foundation gathered on Kuznechna Street, where the office used to be. The first days were chaos: humanitarian aid knee-deep and no division of work. In early March the flows were separated — food, medicine, gear, equipment — and the decision was made to cover what helps carry out combat tasks and save lives.
We work with units stationed in the Sumy region and deliberately do not expand further: the team is small, and the people who trust us care about this region specifically.

The enemy has to fail at every stage of their plan. So each month we add two or three percent to the effectiveness of the defence.
Personal gear for soldiers is covered by the state’s partners. We take what they do not have: vehicles, thermal imagers, sights, quadcopters, border surveillance cameras.
Requests come from unit command. If we do not understand how exactly a thing will be used, we decline. Expensive equipment goes to a unit, never to one person.
NATO-standard first-aid kits are not handed out on request: the unit takes a tactical medicine course first. Four hours for the basic level, two days for the full one.
Foundation volunteers take no salary — donations go to purchases. The accountant and the reporting specialist were funded by the International Renaissance Foundation.
Totals are re-read from the bank pages automatically. The Foundation’s standing accounts are shown without a percentage: they have no end goal and run continuously.

Every current payment detail in one place. Money goes to the organisation’s accounts, not to personal cards.
Contributions are credited to the Charity Organisation “Community Foundation Sumy” (EDRPOU 39364679). Transfers are charitable donations and are not refundable. Funds go to supplying defence units in the Sumy region and helping civilians affected by the war.
A subscription charges the same amount once a month. For the Foundation that is the difference between “raise it within a week” and “buy it today”: when a unit asks for a thermal imager, the money is already there.

A breakdown of the purchases that have a direction recorded in the ledger.
Part of the ledger has no direction recorded — mostly entries from the early years, which we are still sorting through. We show them as a separate line instead of splitting them across the rest, which would make the shares untrue.
A direction is recorded for 10% of the spending
What arrived. Faces are covered — the safety of people on positions requires it.
Every month we publish what we raised and what we spent it on. Every week we report on social media. Annual reports since 2015 are kept separately.

Since 2022 the Foundation’s communications have been run by Cukr — a Sumy outlet funded by its own readers. Cukr announces the campaigns, prepares the monthly reports and shows where the money went.
The Foundation and Cukr are separate organisations. The Foundation raises and buys, Cukr tells the story. No donations go to Cukr’s accounts.
